Creating Digital Citizens -A lesson for Kindergarten
It's happening all around the world!
Below is the Prezi presentation I created to teach about Digital Citizenship to Kindergarteners. It is a little bit of a crash course. To meet the needs of the rubric and the expectations, I had to include a lot more than I would normally in a lesson.
However, that doesn't mean this lesson could not work in a Kindergarten. It would, at the right time of year when students are ready. Like most lessons we teach, it would not be presented all at once. We would do about half the lesson one day. Review the major concepts on the second and conclude with the student activity and sharing.
As you will see, the lesson incorporates many components of Digital Citizenship (I mention them in the presentation) and 21st century skills. One thing I do find, is that many concepts of Digital Citizenship overlap one another and 21st century skills are included in lessons by teachers who incorporate best practice. They are just common sense in regards to what we expect our students to be able to do and demonstrate.
I used Prezi because I was intrigued by the program after seeing so many use it. I do see it's limitations and it is not as user friendly as I thought it was at first glance. My presentation is far from perfect. The window does not zoom in perfectly on the graphic and text like I would like to see it do. Therefore, you will have to zoom out accordingly. It pains me to leave the presentation like this because I do like things to line up just right graphically speaking . However, in a weeks time, I cannot possibly learn all the nuances of the program. Nor is the objective here to demonstrate proficiency with the medium. Please slide and move your viewer if you are interested in viewing my lesson on Digital Citizenship.
(NOTE: For best viewing, click Play. Once the Prezi loads click More and view the presentation full screen.)
